Chocolate Hills - Bohol, Philippines

Our day of activities on the island of Bohol began with a visit to the famed Chocolate Hills. The hills are a remnant of coral reefs and lime deposits that made it to the surface as the islands of the Philippines were pushed up from the depths of the ocean to form land millions of years ago. After millennia upon millennia and extensive erosion the hills took the shape of chocolate drops - think Hersey’s Kisses. When the dry season is at its peak in Bohol, the dried grasses and foliage on the hills turns brown and give the hills a chocolatey coloration. Unfortunately, the chocolate hills were more green than brown on our visit. However, they definitely beat the white chocolate hills (snow covered) you can currently see back home in Wisconsin at this time of year.
