The BEST street food in Hoi An
Steven and I are foodies, so when we heard from many fellow travelers how good (and cheap) the street food in Vietnam was, we were excited! The best street food we had hands down was in Hoi An, Vietnam. In the market are several food stalls with many stall owners serving up a variety of dishes. After reading reviews on Trip Advisor we hit up Ms Chien (featured on Anthony Bourdain’s show 'No Reservations') for her infamous Cao Lau - a noodle dish only found in Hoi An. I was especially excited because I haven't been able to eat meat since the Philippines and she had another vendor give her fried tofu for my order.
Next to Ms Chen is Ms Ha who makes the best White Rose. The White Rose is a seafood dumpling topped with fish sauce and roasted coconut that Steven was over the moon for. She also makes a Mi Quang Noodle dish that is to DIE for.
On the other side of the bridge was a Kyento vendor selling a semi sweet delicacy from his bike. I tried this little dessert while at the night market in Da Lat and LOVED it! It's a sugar cane candy stretched into fine fibers coated in coconut flour, placed between two rice crackers, and topped with dried coconut.
Finally, the BEST Banh Mi in Vietnam award goes to Banh Mi Phuong, a small booth on the outside of the central food market. This lovely couple offers up 9 different options and yes, they had a vegetarian version for me!!! Delish!
Grab a draft beer at several restaurants for 3000 Vietnamese Dong (13 cents) and all is right in the world.
Finally, if you are looking for a ‘good’ cup of REAL ground coffee, check out the new local Hoi An Roastery. Yum! As it felt a lot like home, I figured it was owned by an American. Yep, it was!
