Inwa, Mandalay

This man made island was once the site of the Myanmar capital during the reign of many kings until it was leveled by earthquakes in 1839. Now it's one of Mandalay's biggest tourist draws. Since the amount of motorized vehicles on the island are extremely limited, the main means of transportation is by horse drawn carriage. Sarah and I were taken through the city by a great guide and his adorable horse. Despite Sarah's apprehension in taking a pony carriage, we enjoyed our outing through the old palace grounds, temples dating back several hundreds of years, and a leaning watch tower which our guide referred to as Myanmar's Pisa.
